Tests: Instructions

Once we have opened a notebook from a previous test or exam from the Sample Tests page, most of the instructions below will seem dispensable. However, that is not the case with points IV and V, and for that reason, they deserve particular attention from students before they sit an examination.

I - Test reception

  1. You will receive the test (in the form of a Pluto notebook) through your ISCTE-IUL institutional email.

  2. Create a folder on your computer where you will place your test.

  3. Place the test (notebook) in this folder. It is strongly recommended to keep only this test in such a folder.

  4. Open the Pluto notebook as usual.

  5. Read the information box at the beginning of the test, carefully. See the next item.

II - When can I start answering the questions?

  1. You can start answering questions, only when the notebook is completely loaded.

  2. Until then, you can read the questions, scroll-down or scroll-up, but do not answer questions in the notebook.

  3. When is the notebook completely loaded? See the following image.

III - How should I insert my answers in the notebook?

  1. Every question has a horizontal rule with bullets: choose the bullet you consider the correct answer. See image below.

  2. When you choose one of them from (a) to (e), the marker will turn into , indicating that the question has been answered.

  3. By default, when the notebook loads, questions show NR, indicating they are unanswered.

  4. If a question is flagged in the test 🚩, it is considered as not answered in the grading process. This flag helps students easily get back to the questions they want to review.

IV - How should I finish the test?

  1. At the end of the test (notebook), we will find 3 boxes: the student’s name, the student’s number, and a checkbox. See the next image.

  2. The last thing we should do in the test is to click on the checkbox. It will save an Excel file (with a CSV extension) containing your answers, and it will use your number as its name.

V - How should I submit my answers?

  1. In the folder where you have your test, there will only be two files after you click on the checkbox:

    • A notebook with the test;
    • An Excel file (with a .csv extension) that contains your number as its name. For example, if your number were 130000, you would see: 130000.csv
  2. Do not open the Excel file (.csv) because it is protected; the test will not be graded if you do.

  3. When the test ends, you will have 10 minutes to send the Excel file with your student number (.csv) to the teaching team by email.

    • Reply back to the email from which you received your test and ATTACH your .csv file

    • Pay attention: attach the file, DO NOT SHARE it in the email. Shared files will not be graded.

  4. If you need to view the test, first make a copy of the entire folder to a different location and then open files only in this copied folder. Do not open any files in the original folder until the assessment is finished.
